Key Updates You Should Know
Stricter Rules on Product Naming
- - Product names cannot be attractive to children or adolescents.
- - Names cannot be linked to food, beverages, confectionery, or cosmetics.
- - Any suggestion of health benefits or safety is prohibited.
- - Marketing language that promotes or exaggerates use is not allowed.
More Rigorous Packaging & Labeling Standards
- - Labels must follow strict color and text size limitations.
- - Clear warning statements are mandatory.
- - Features like heat-sensitive inks or decorative elements that change over time are banned.
New Ingredient & Nicotine Limits
- - Only approved ingredients are permitted.
- - Menthol content is capped at 20mg/ml.
- - Nicotine concentration cannot exceed 50mg/ml.
- - Size limits for vaping products:
- Vape liquid containers: Maximum of 60ml.
- Pods/cartridges (closed systems): Maximum of 5ml.
What’s Next?
From March 1, 2025, only products that meet these new standards can be imported into Australia. However, retailers and suppliers have until July 1, 2025, to ensure that all stocked products are fully compliant.
